7,144 Alabamians have logged 246,448 miles

Welcome to the 2019 Season of the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge

We admit, we are already getting a little nostalgic about last year's 100 Alabama Miles Challenge. As we move full steam into 2019, we wanted to take a look back at all the successes of 2018. There were so many!

A lot happened during the first eight months of the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge. The Challenge officially kicked off on May 12, 2018 and from then until the end of the year, over 1,500 Alabamians participated. Those participants logged an impressive 46,000 miles during the year! Any number of activities counted towards these miles — from hiking to swimming to cycling and running, participants across the state got outside and active in a big way!

Leading the way with support and by setting a good example, Noah Galloway was our spokesperson in 2018. Few Alabamians have a more impressive active lifestyle than Noah. After being injured in the Iraq War, Noah transitioned his recovery into a life dedicated to fitness and to encouraging others.  As a motivational speaker, extreme race competitor, fitness expert, and reality TV star, he challenges others to #livewithnoexcuses, and has challenged Alabamians to get 100 miles of activity in each year.  We thank Noah so much for his support in 2018!

So what’s next for the Challenge in 2019? Well for starters, we will have a huge kickoff event on March 2 at Railroad Park in Birmingham. Keep an eye out on this blog and our social media for more details on that event in the coming weeks. You’ll definitely want to be there!

We are also adding an 100 Alabama Miles Ambassador program for 2019.  Our Ambassadors will highlight many outdoors locations around the state of interest to participants, organize participant events, and encourage everyone to stay active in the Challenge. We will announce our awesome Ambassadors in the coming days.

In addition to our 100 Alabama Miles Ambassadors, we will also be enhancing our website and adding new functionality that will make participating in the challenge even easier.  We will also be rewarding participants with prizes for completing 100 miles and through social media contests. Who doesn’t love prizes?

Stay tuned for more information about our March 2nd kickoff and other events throughout the year.
