Festive Ways to Finish Your 100 Alabama Miles

Can you believe it’s already nearing the end of the year?

Instead of stressing out about how you’ll fit in your final #100ALMILES during the holidays, why not incorporate your exercise with some festive fun? Here are some places around Alabama to log your merry miles.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park

This park that helped launch Birmingham’s iron industry loves to get in the holiday spirit with their annual Trail of Trees. They have a display of 18 trees in front of the Craft Cabins ready for you to admire. If you go during the day, be sure to bring your mountain bike to explore their extensive trail system.

Palisades Park

Nestled above Oneonta, Palisades Park in Blount County is holding their annual Christmas Lights Extravaganza. While it’s advertised as a driving lights tour, we recommend going during the day and walking the tour so you can enjoy the fun details of the displays. While you’re there, be sure to visit Inspiration Point, hike the trails, or climb their fire tower.

Graham Creek Nature Preserve

Welcome to Christmas at the beach! Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley has a new tradition—families can come walk the boardwalk and enjoy Christmas lights, children can take photos with Santa, and you can snag a last-minute holiday photo at their photo booth.

Tinsel Trail Huntsville

Downtown Huntsville’s Big Spring Park has a complete Christmas transformation during the holiday season. Tinsel Trail is made up of over 300 live Christmas trees decorated by community corporations, groups, or families.

Tinsel Trail Tuscaloosa

Football isn’t the only reason to visit Tuscaloosa. Their Tinsel Trail transforms Government Plaza into a winter wonderland, full of almost 200 Christmas trees decorated by the community. When you finish admiring the trees, you can continue to log miles on the Riverwalk.

Create Your Own

You don’t need to attend an organized event to have some fun logging your holiday miles. Gather some friends to go on a Christmas lights run in a neighborhood known for its decorations, don a Santa hat and go paddling, or have an end of year bike ride that ends in a potluck picnic!
