Getting outdoors and being active has been key to physical and mental health during the recent pandemic. More and more, people are getting outside on the roads and trails for the first time. It’s important to remember that there is proper etiquette for using and sharing the roads, sidewalks, pathways, and trails throughout our state. Here are a few ways to show courtesy to your fellow #100ALMILES participants.

In these uncertain times, getting outdoors and being active is crucial to mental and physical health.
Alabama is fortunate to have a vast, impressive trail network throughout the state. Trails wind through countless wooded areas, within close distance to white sandy beaches, and up to the highest mountains. However, historically there haven’t been many trail options available surrounding the state’s lakes. That recently changed with the addition of The Preserves, an initiative by Alabama Power to create multiple outdoor recreational areas around many of our beautiful lakes.
Running in Alabama can be quite fun with all the miles of asphalt and trail available. It’s even more enjoyable when others join in. Here are four of our top running groups around the state that you can join for great runs and fantastic comradery.
The Richard Martin Trail, located in the charming town of Elkmont, Alabama is a 10-mile rail-trail that offers history, beautiful scenery, and all-around fun for those who like to hike, bike, and horseback ride. It was also the very first rail-trail developed in Alabama!
